Raging River is an alternative rock band from Milan, Italy. They released an EP entitled ‘City Birds’ last year and it impresses on almost all fronts. I’m here to tell you why you should go back and listen to the EP.

The guitar riffs on opening track ‘Alcoholic Bound’ sound fuzzy and filthy in the best way possible. The guitar playing really is one of the great strengths to this EP and it’s refreshing to see it being displayed at the forefront of a band. The drums come crashing in tremendously, only boasting even further, the ambitious thinking of Raging River, who seem to want to create as big a sound as possible on their songs. Vocally, Raging River are crisp and direct, but never forget that much-needed edge that all great rock bands play up to.

Lyrically some of the tracks can be a little on-the-nose, but it’s never too much of a problem as the vocal delivery backs it up with enough emotion to see past any flaws that may have been created. The lyrical approach isn’t lackluster though and earns itself merit by the pictures it creates in the mind of the listener.

The track ‘Rock Bottom’ is a blast to listen to. It’s catchy chorus will be stuck in your head for some time to come. I couldn’t help but love the way the lead singer seemed to throw his voice around on this track. It’s certainly the most impressive vocal performance on the EP. This track would be a brilliant fit for a live show, it really paints a picture of an uncontrollable audience. The riff that plays throughout most of the song is a steamroller and makes for some 70s inspired goodness.

If you’re a rock fan, then I most definitely recommend this EP. While being clearly inspired by the past, the EP sounds fresh and new. I look forward to hearing more from Raging River!
